Apple and Meta clash over message access controls tied to system permissions
The two companies disagree over whether current full-disk protections prevent software from examining user chats.

A disagreement has emerged between Apple and Meta regarding the boundaries of data access on Apple devices. Meta maintains that granting full-disk access permissions does not give tools like Muse the ability to inspect user messages. Apple rejects this position, taking the view that the existing mechanism does enable such access.
The technical specifics of how the operating system handles these permissions remain unresolved in the public dispute. It is still unclear how Apple intends to adjust system settings in response, or precisely which data flows Meta contends are kept out of reach.
