Apple and LG Team Up to Build Connected Hardware for the Home

A joint hardware effort points toward a broader domestic system anchored by an upcoming central household console.

Apple is preparing a fresh entry into household automation through a hardware alliance with LG Electronics. According to accounts originating from Bloomberg, the two companies have jointly designed a suite of connected household accessories intended to communicate across a shared network.

The collaborative catalog covers several everyday household gadgets. Planned releases include a digital deadbolt lock, a networked climate thermostat, and a video doorbell, alongside security cameras tailored for indoor rooms, outdoor monitoring, and floodlight fixtures.

Although Apple contributed to the design work, the accessories will not carry its familiar corporate emblem. LG will sell the lineup under its own badge, taking direct responsibility for assembly lines and after-sale consumer assistance.

The equipment is meant to tie directly into an upcoming central command hub designed by Apple. That machine, which has spent multiple years in development, features a square six-inch screen that owners can rest on a kitchen counter or fasten flat against an interior wall.

The accounts offer contrasting timelines for when the gear will actually reach buyers. One report indicates an unveiling set for October 13, while another cautions that the LG-branded accessories might not arrive on store shelves for at least a few months.

The broader domestic push could reach beyond individual sensors and monitors. Industry reports suggest companion updates may also be in development for the HomePod Mini speaker and the Apple TV streaming unit.

Moving deeper into basic household hardware sets up a direct confrontation with established network ecosystems, most notably the domestic gear and Ring camera line sold by Amazon.

The partnership builds on an existing relationship between the two manufacturers. LG previously supplied high-grade display panels for external Mac monitors and has distributed Apple software on its living room television sets.
