Antonelli edges close to F1 title in Mexico

The 20-year-old Mercedes driver could win his first world championship in Mexico City, with five races left.

Antonelli has already recorded nine wins and 17 podiums this season, giving him a clear advantage over his two rivals.

Points give him advantage

With five races remaining and 125 points still up for grabs, Antonelli only needs to finish between first and ninth in Mexico City to lock in the championship. A tenth-place finish would also secure the title if Russell fails to win, and any finish from eleventh to twenty-second would be enough if neither Russell nor Hamilton wins.

If Antonelli drops to 11th or lower, Russell or Hamilton must win in Mexico to stay in contention. If Antonelli retires, one of them would also need to win to stay alive.

Antonelli will be eligible to race with the number 1 on his car in 2027, but he said he will keep his No. 12, the number famously linked to Ayrton Senna.

Antonelli said he wants to enjoy the rest of the season and fight for another win. He will approach the Mexican race with the same mindset he had in the United States.
