Championship leader Kimi Antonelli took pole at the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas, with a lap of 1m 34.035s in Q3. Max Verstappen qualified second after his final lap was deleted for track limits, and Isack Hadjar took third, putting two Red Bulls in the top three. Verstappen was 0.179 seconds back.

Grip loss and deleted lap

Verstappen said a loss of grip in the final sector left him unable to lean on the rear of the car. He likened the car to a kangaroo after he hit a bump wrongly, and said he had no balance on his last two sets. He also had no explanation for why a new set of soft tyres felt worse than the used set he ran in Q1 and Q2.

Antonelli said they would try to win the race and noted how close the session had been, praising Verstappen and Hadjar. Further down the order, Russell crossed the line fifth but was pushed back to seventh by Hamilton and Norris.
