Anthropic is struggling to secure enough cloud capacity from AWS, Google and Microsoft, who increasingly see it as a competitor rather than a customer. A leaked S‑1 filing seen by The Wall Street Journal and reported by Reuters and the Financial Times shows the company is seeking more than $750 billion in cloud contracts.

Rising Cloud Costs

The company believes it could spend more than $750 billion on cloud contracts, some of which are still in negotiation, but that amount is still not enough. To fill the gap, Anthropic is leasing its own data centers and working with third‑party operators, though the firm worries those operators have a limited operating history that could make them less reliable than the hyperscalers.

Anthropic posted an $80.7 billion net loss in the first half of the year, even as it generated $16.3 billion in revenue, with only two customers accounting for about a fifth of sales. The S‑1 filing also warns that the company could be held liable for damages caused by harmful AI behavior to a tune that would exceed available insurance coverage. Last week, the company told prospective investors that third‑quarter revenue alone had reached $16.8 billion, up 45 % from the previous quarter.

Anthropic is reportedly targeting a November IPO, but did not immediately respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment.
