Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey has been announced for release on current‑generation consoles, including the Nintendo Switch 2. The title, a third‑person open‑world survival game, will launch on December 8, 2026. Players guide a hominid clan through the Neogene period of Africa, ranging from 10 million to 2 million years ago. The game is the first title from Panache Digital Games, the studio co‑founded by former Assassin’s Creed creative director Patrice Désilets.
New Features and Improvements
Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions add documentary‑style narration, a full photo mode and several quality‑of‑life tweaks. These upgrades are also pushed to the PC edition through a free update. The new console builds keep the core survival mechanics but offer richer storytelling tools for players. The photo mode lets players capture the game’s sweeping landscapes and share them online.
The game first launched on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on August 27, 2019, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 6, 2019. Existing owners of the earlier versions will receive a complimentary upgrade to the new console releases. The expanded ports are part of Panache Digital Games’ strategy to bring the title to a broader audience across multiple platforms.
