Amazon MGM Studios is holding the final stage of its search for a new James Bond, with four finalists set to take part in screen tests this week. The tests are the last part of a long‑running audition process, and an official announcement is not expected until later in the year.

Production details

The reboot is being directed by Denis Villeneuve, who recently helmed the Dune films. Writing duties are handled by Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders, and the picture is produced by Amy Pascal, who worked on Spider‑Man: Brand New Day, and David Heyman, a long‑time Harry Potter producer. Production is currently underway. The film is expected to feature at least three new actors in the 007 franchise.

In related 007 projects, Patrick Gibson has portrayed Bond in the video game 007 First Light, while Isaac Rouse voices a teenage Bond in the upcoming audio drama Young Bond: SilverFin. Rumours also suggest that the new film may use multiple actors to depict Bond across different periods, and a live‑action series could appear at a Universal United Kingdom resort. The audio drama is based on Higson’s 2005 novel and is set to release next year.

With the screen tests underway, industry observers predict that a decision on the lead will be announced by the end of 2026. The new film will succeed Daniel Craig, who closed a five‑film run that included Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre and No Time to Die. Fans are eager to see which actor will carry the iconic role forward.
