Amazon is reportedly in discussions to purchase the artificial intelligence startup Decart. The deal could value the company at up to seven billion dollars. This news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Decart makes a software tool called DOS that speeds up the setup of AI workloads. Developers usually need months to optimize their neural networks for specific computer chips. With this software, they can finish the process in just a couple of weeks.
This speed is useful for Amazon Web Services as it promotes its own Trainium chips. Companies can move their tasks to different processors if their needs change or supply runs low. It gives them more flexibility when running large artificial intelligence projects.
The startup also builds its own models beyond the software tools. These include Lucy and Oasis, which create realistic three-dimensional environments. Game makers and robotic trainers use these simulations for development work.
Other buyers are still interested in the company at this time. Anthropic PBC reportedly tried to buy Decart last month but pulled out of a six billion dollar deal. Reports say they stopped after checking the startup, though the reason remains unclear.
