Alliance Arts announced it was canceling the public demo of its upcoming game Drunken Goddess Reflux because it feared AI tools could copy the experience before the game’s launch. The demo had been scheduled for October 19, but the studio said it could not enforce restrictions on a public release and apologized for the short notice. The decision means the demo will no longer be available to the general public.

Drunken Goddess Reflux is a drinking survival game that pits players against an anime demon girl in a Russian roulette style duel using shot glasses. The game’s rules become stranger as more alcohol is consumed, adding a layer of unpredictability to each round.

Switch to Closed Sessions

The studio explained that its small team could not police a public demo and worried others could quickly imitate or replicate the game’s presentation and gameplay with AI or other tools. Instead, Alliance Arts will host closed online play sessions for a limited number of participants who must agree to specific requirements about handling gameplay footage. Applications are being managed through the game’s Discord server, where the team will also gather feedback.

The move reflects a broader pattern in the indie scene, where developers have seen prototypes duplicated by AI within hours of being shared online. Attack of the Fanboy cited an example of a developer whose prototype was cloned in five hours and referenced similar incidents on Bluesky. This issue has plagued the mobile market for years, and previous demo leaks have happened for reasons unrelated to AI.

Despite the cancellation, Drunken Goddess Reflux is still slated to launch on Steam on December 8, and Alliance Arts apologized to fans for the short notice.
