Accenture’s internal announcement, effective October 1, sets a $29‑per‑month cap on each employee’s use of the Claude AI model. Employees who previously spent up to $1,000 a month will now have to charge any usage beyond the cap to a Work Breakdown Structure, the company’s project budget code. The change reflects a broader trend of firms tightening AI budgets after heavy early spending. The announcement was first reported by 404 Media and later covered by The Next Web.
Employee reactions to the cap
Some staff are looking for ways around the new limit. A few have even had their Claude access revoked. These reactions highlight the tension between cost control and productivity.
Accenture said it remains committed to providing AI tools for all staff and investing in AI capabilities and skills. It noted that 82 % of more than 3,000 executives surveyed are increasing AI investment, and it has recently funded an AI‑platform company called Within. Yet the firm’s own policy mirrors moves by Microsoft, Atlassian and Uber to cap internal AI use. The company’s spokesperson framed the change as a way to “provide the right tool for the right work” while still delivering value to clients. The Next Web and 404 Media both reported this position, underscoring the industry‑wide shift toward budget‑aware AI adoption.
