A new tool lets Mac users delete Apple AI files to save drive space

The open-source program clears out artificial intelligence data that remains on the computer after system updates.

A new software tool helps people free up space on Mac computers. It targets files that Apple uses for artificial intelligence features.

The program is named RemoveMacAI. It is an open-source command line tool, which means anyone can read the code and run it through text commands.

In earlier versions of the Mac operating system, users could turn off these tools with a single switch in the computer settings. That switch was taken away in macOS 27.

Because the option is gone, the computer keeps the artificial intelligence models stored on the drive. These files remain even if the user does not want them.

The new tool allows people to wipe those stored models from the drive. This helps users reclaim their computer storage.

The notes do not provide the rest of the details about how the tool works. It is also not clear how much total space the files take up or if deleting them causes other problems.
