A new design questions the need for standard wires inside computing systems

Hardware designers are looking at other ways to move data between processor units and system memory.

Most computers rely on physical wires to send data back and forth. These lines link the parts that calculate data with the parts that store it.

A new idea suggests that wires might not be the only way to join these two basic pieces together.

Because the notes share very little information, it is not clear what will take the place of the wires. It is also not clear how this new method will work in practice.

Details about who will build these systems or when the hardware will become available have not been shared.
